Enough already!

Not like I haven't spent enough time downtown, but it looks like there's a great film about Billie Holliday at the Alamo Downtown tonight at 7pm. Anyone interested?

The one and only Lady Day in all of her film appearances. Includes the complete "Sound of Jazz" television show from 1957 which features the greatest assemblage of jazz talent ever assembled before a camera. As an added bonus, the show starts with the greatest jazz film ever made: "Jammin the Blues" from 1944.

OMG...I wonder if that will make it to NYC?!
I'm a huge Lady Day fanatic.

It's actually being presented by Dennis Nyback:
" a former projectionist and mystery bookshop owner who pioneered a whole new school of kamikaze film exhibition with his legendary micro-cinemas The Pike Street Cinema (Seattle) and The Lighthouse Cinema (New York), Nyback has thrilled and befuddled audiences the world over with his vast and obscure collection of 16mm film."

Have you seen The Lighthouse Cinema? And...

so WHEN are you coming to AUSTIN??!!

Another if only
If I wasn't headed to Varekai tonight, I'd be right next to you. No chance of another showing I guess?

Unfortunately not- and I worked too late to go!

Keep an eye out at the beginning for the Varekai drummer when the musicians promenade. He's the guy I mentioned meeting last month!

I didn't read this until this morning, but I did notice him. I guess my eye is always drawn to the person keeping the beat. The show was excellent and the flying brothers were awesome. I was mesmerized.

Glad you enjoyed the show! That was Paul who you saw- he's a sweetheart. We went out on a couple of dates but we've both been incredibly busy so nothing's really transpired- plus he's a little too clean-cut good Catholic boy for my tastes :P
