So tonight I was wondering what the heck I was thinking, offering to take the event leader responsibility for a wine tasting on V-Day.
OMG- I can't even begin to describe the delicious food that we enjoyed, and the wonderful wines that accompanied the dishes. At our table, I enjoyed the company of two divorcees as well as a single guy from HCO. We had a blast, and I was quite impressed with the knowledge of our wine host. Turns out he is an engineer by trade, but does a wine tasting every *edit* TUESDAY* night at the Tuscany Market on Riata Trace Parkway. Upside was that I tried two Italian and two California wines that I might not have ventured to try under normal circumstances, and my expense was covered by HCO. Downside was that I bought 4 bottles of wine at a total of about $70. =P
One of the California sparkling wines reminded me of my first taste of Mumm Champagne in Reims, France. Imagine my surprise when I saw the bottle and the name was Mumm Napa- apparently Mumm has set up shop in the Napa Valley. Excellent, dry Brut, made with Chardonnay grapes. The other sparkling wine is Prosecca, from Italy. Again, I only drink Veuve Clicquot on special holidays, but the Prosecca was affordable enough. Can't wait to try with some baked brie, and maybe a framboise confiture.
Won't go into details on the food, too complex to describe!! Think warm goat cheese with pesto, sundried tomatoes, chipotle chutney mixed field green salad, tempura fried spring rolls, also spicy, just to name two courses. Needless to say I was/am stuffed.
What a nice way to forego the standard date night! Tomorrow I think I will treat myself to a bouquet of my favorite flower, Alstromeria, or irises, when flowers prices will have gone back to sane prices!
