One of the things I like about Live Journal is getting a glimpse into other places that I've never been, from people I've never met.
eurosphinx in Europe, hobbitblue in Liverpool, lolliejean in Destin, Florida, and drfardook. Of course, there's also bloodcicle who lives in "Uranus", Massachusetts- I love her cynical humour!
Interesting to see cultural differences in your own country. drfardook told me how there are very few cheap Mexican restaurants in New York. Those that do exist apparently are former chinese restaurants converted by a chain. The concept of smelling black beans and behind that a pot of cheap fish stewing in vinegar, soy sauce, and spinach for the worker's lunch seems so odd. By contrast, today I ate at Taqueria Arandina's, smack dab in Central Austin. Both the waitress and cashier spoke only Spanish to me- I wonder what my lunch would have been like if I was unable to converse properly?
