Alternative Press? In the (b)US(h)?

Picked this up from a newsletter from Anita Roddick. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I myself prefer the Independent over the Guardian.....

The Guardian plans an American edition

Maybe I'm just a mad Anglophile (my ancestry is microscopically more Irish than everything else, so I always respond to this allegation with, "What? After what they did to us for eight hundred long years?"), but I'm really glad to hear this. I got hooked on Guardian reports after September 11th. It was so incredibly different than what everything else was saying, and so patently less false.

I've only read a couple Independent articles that my father forwarded me (since retirement, my father has become the world's most general researcher). Maybe it's better, but the Guardian is still way better than anything mass distributed here. I think the condition of the US media has a lot to do with the current leadership.

Re: Yay!
That's great that your dad keeps an open ear and mind to a variety of sources. My uncle also spends a lot of time communicating through the net, but he appears to have blinders on when it comes to the media, and the current administration.
Speaking of which, *Snax gets out her soapbox* did anyone else notice that the BARTON SPRINGS TAINTED story broke in AAS the same day 100's of thousands of folks were protesting in our nation's largest cities? Didn't see that on the 10 o'clock news...I know a lot about the water quality issues and background of that story, and know it could have been published months, even two years prior to that particular day....

I don't keep up on other perspectives as much as I would like, but I try to check www.reuters.com when possible. I really like Robert Fisk's perspective in The Independent, although his articles frequently occur in Z mag http://www.zmag.org/weluser.htm

And iff you want to keep track of the situation on the "northern front"in Turkey: www.zaman.org

Time to put the soapbox away, hope I didn't scare anyone off!
